Epicenter

In mid-March Mayor Bill de Blasio ordered a city-wide lockdown of New York City to curtail the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. I went on several assignments to document the starkness of the city during the lockdown. Concurrently, a number of demonstrations were being held in other cities nationwide, protesting the mandated stay-in-place decrees that many state governments imposed. With New York being the Covid-19 epicenter, we felt it was a responsibility to document our city. As people continue to gather without taking any precautions, we also felt the need to create a warning, a record of the possible outcome of the spreading disease.

Epicenter was senior produced by my partner, Marvi Lacar and edited by JL Lacar. Big thanks to Liz Baylen and Andrea Wise for their valuable feedback. Here’s an interview with Sony Alpha Universe about this piece. The rest of my photojournalism and documentary work lives HERE.
